Tried the trusted device on the Samsung S6. For this particular phone, it unlocks immediately after detecting the NFC ring (without swiping).

This is now happening on my Nexus 6 It must be one of the recent updates. but good to know this is now a stock android feature :)

    • Expectations VS reality

Its been a couple of weeks since I got my rings. I ended up with Black / Black instead of Black / Transparent like I though I was going to get. (this has been handled by support)

      Iv noticed the following.

      • If the colors are the same on both sides, you really need to program both sides to do the same thing, as the ring rotates a bit on your finger. I hadn't considered this but its obvious really.

      • I can unlock my phone most of the time first go, but sometimes It takes a second try, So its not 100% every time. (Nexus 5)

      • There is not enough storage to put all the data you want into a vCard. So for future products a little bit more capacity would be nice.

      • Trying to give someone your vCard through NFC, if that person doesn't use NFC on their phone every day is clumsy as you have to find the sweet spot on their phone. It doesn't really work well and is just a bit embarrassing when you cant get it to work or it takes a really long time. Iv given up on this. Its just too awkward.

      • The absolute killer feature is unlocking my front door with the ring. It feels magic :)

      • I really want to get my computers to unlock with the ring too. Thankfully there are resources on this forum to help with that. But that may require a ring with different colored sides so you know which side opens your phone and which side opens your computer. (waiting on stock to arrive to get that ring)

      • I'm actually holding off on buying a Microsoft surface Pro 3 because it doesn't have NFC. NFC has now become a mandatory feature on every future piece of tech I buy.

      • The build quality of the ring is so good that people are very surprised at what it does.

      • I would love if custom designs could become an actual product in the NFC store. With obviously higher costs and lead times to be expected.

    • Ring Swap

I know a few of us got substitute rings in the Kick Starter. I though it may be a good idea to do a Ring Swap.

So to start off, I have a Black / Black in size 10 that I may be prepared to swap for something else in a Size 10.

      EDIT - Classic not alpha

    • Compliments

Yesterday at the races a girl said to me, "That's a really nice ring" she had no idea it was anything more than an ordinary ring.

Wearable tech is the last thing I ever expected to get compliments over.

so just wanted to say well done to the NFC ring Team for being the first company in history to make good looking tech !!!

seems Google still didn't learn ....

My guess would be its got nothing to do with google in this case but Sony. Every vendor can change the Android code to suit their needs. Google do apply some limits and obviously this wasn't one of them.

    • How to get Android 5 OTA if your on Telstra

      Hi all the Australians.

If your on Telstra, And you should have the Android 5 update (I have a nexus 5) they are holding back the update. Just pop in another SIM reboot and you will be able to get the update, your phone will still use the WIFI to get the 500 mb update.

Trusted NFC devices works well once you get used to it. And it doesn't write a record onto your NFC chip which is awesome. so the Chip is free to have other purposes as well as unlocking your front door and your phone :)

    • RE: Is it safe to use hand sanitizer (e.g., Purell) while wearing an NFC Ring?

@nickh I don't even think about that stuff any more. Iv used soap and hand sanitizer many times and iv never had any issues. Iv even got paint thinner on it without thinking. Mind you I have more than one so I'm covered if I do break mine.

@shama Thanks for placing this here then! I could not comment either...

I vote Yes on this as well. I would love to know which of my rings ( maybe both?) are causing the trouble...I've yet to find out that status of my particular order so any information in that regard would be VERY helpful!

I agree, I would love to know which of my rings is causing the issue and have the ability to change it.

    • Using the Payments Ring in day to day use.

so whilst I don't use this ring every day (because it doesn't open doors) I have now had plenty of experience with it. Its fantastic to wear to the beach for example, because you can buy stuff and not be carrying about a wallet which can easily be stolen if left at the beach whilst your swimming.

In day to day use I have noticed the following.
      1- It generally works well.
      2- Its always a conversation
3- sometimes people think you are hacking them.
4- older readers or readers that are very scratched up, like touristy areas, near the beach often don't read well. I have had to take the ring off and place it on a reader once, to get it to read.
5- if it doesn't work first go it usually takes 3 (weird I know)
6- when it works first go, you completely own it and it feels cool. Its not so cool when it takes 3 goes.

UPDATE - I have now got my stealth bomber pre-order ring and can confirm that the NFC ring is NOT compatible with ASUS NFC express. I cannot get it to detect the ring at all. Every other tag I have works but I'm guessing that the ring is just too small.

OK further update. I finally got my Kickstarter Rings and the extra NFC chip that came in the pack actually does work with the ASUS NFC express, but I still cant get the ring to work. This means the NFC chip is actually compatible, if only we can find a way to get it to be more sensitive, this would be a really easy computer unlock solution. And remember I have got it to work on both my Lenovo and ASUS machines.

lady will be getting one from the sound of i

I am very interested in how your lady goes with it, I am a long way from an apple fan In fact I encourage everyone I know to never buy apple products however if they do a good job of NFC it may really push the entire protocol along. The one thing i do respect apple for is copying something that didn't really take off for someone else (eg. Bill gates and tablet computing) and making it hugely popular. ie. iPads.

If it weren't for them the PC industry would still be giving us Beige boxes for computers. So I hope because of apple we start to see NFC in many more products, Fingers Crossed

    • RE: Using NFC Ring to log into my Desktop

      @Lafunamor

Hi Yes I purchased this reader, the hardware reads the ring, it beeps and the light goes from red to green. however the software in that link does not read the NFC ring as a card.

Basically the hardware is fine, the software is not.

when going through the setup using the cards supplied it requires writing a certificate onto the card. Perhaps the card has enough space to store the certificate but the ring does not.
