Kickstarter order status
-
Hi there,
First of all, let me say sorry up front since I feel like being the millionth person post this question, but even after reading your last kickstarter updates and same threads on here, I'm still not completely sure I understand what the current status for my ring order is.I became a backer on 24 July 2013, when I pledged 28 pounds to get the alpha man size ring.
On October 28, 2013, I received an email asking for my address, I filled this in the same day using the given link. If I click this link today it displays the data I've filled in which I've double-checked and is correct. On November 12, 2013, I received an email saying my ring is in production:
[quote:18d73z4y]We're emailing to let you know your final order of your NFC Ring has been successfully registered and has begun production.
Your order is:
Alpha Size Ring with Black Plated Metal. Your inlay choices are Black and Black Carbon Fiber and the Ring Size is US Size: 15.5. Note: This is a stealth bomber ring.[/quote:18d73z4y]Then there were some updated indicating there were problems with the carbon inlays, but that there would be replaced with the regular black ones, which is fine for me. But so far I haven't received any shipping confirmation for my ring. This worries me.
In the last email of March 25, 2014, you just talked about later shipping dates for US customers, which I am not (I live in Belgium). So I'm a bit lost here as to what the status of my order is.Hopefully someone can clarify? I don't mind waiting a little longer, It's just that I don't know if my ring should have been shipped or not.
Thanks! -
Hi vyruz!
First of all: everything is OK! The rings getting shipped out as soon as they are available. So just give it a few more weeks. As John mentioned in his [url=https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mclear/nfc-ring/posts/804093:hh01uqd9]newest update[/url:hh01uqd9] they produce about 500 rings per day, so it shouldn't take very long.
Hope this answers your question.

The current status of all orders that haven't been fulfilled is that the rings are either in production or if they are part of a collection we are still waiting on missing parts. Any ring that is part of a single order that can be fulfilled is being fulfilled.
The reason that certain rings are going to certain people first is that we aren't making one standard NFC ring. By adding in variables such as metal colour (3), ring size (2), bottom inlay colour (10) top inlay colour (10) and size (24) you then multiply those numbers together and the smallest mistake in any part of the supply chain leads to delays.
If an individual ring fails QA say a Titanium-Purple-Red-6.5 then it's not something that we can fix overnight (we wish we could but we can't). It then goes back into the production queue, even when production starts its going to take approx a week to finish then it could be waiting 1-4 days before it's DHL shipped via HK to us in the UK this takes 4-5 days. Then we have the unpacking, QA testing and posting (2-3 days) then the delivery time itself which could be up to 7 days.
Your ring should hopefully be with us shortly

Thanks for the clarification. I understand and appreciate the amount of effort you guys have put in to arrange the shipping for all the rings!
I just have one question concerning the QA process. Say if someone's ring doesn't pass the QA, does that mean an additional order has to be placed (and thus back into the production queue) and this someone will only get the ring (no matter it's a normal or with various combination) when you receive a new one from the factory? I'm not criticizing this process as I think this makes perfect sense, just to make sure I got it right.
Thanks.

The short answer is - it depends.
When we placed the order we added weighting so we would have extra rings when we finished for retail and for potential QA fails.
However because there are so many "unique" rings on order it would have been impractical to create an order that prepared for the worst case scenario. If we had known what the fail rate was going to be beforehand we could maybe have created a more efficient order.
There are some rings where we have enough breathing room to deal with a high QA failure rate. However it doesn't necessarily work as easy as it sounds. The QA fail rate isn't constant across all styles some batches we are getting near perfect (1-2% failure rate) where as some are as high as (60-70%).
It's difficult to explain the various problems as unless we have questions it lacks context. We are learning from this process and hope to make it alot smoother in the future.
