NFC Ring arrived DOA. Replacement process?
-
So it turns out my ring simply does not work. It wasn't registering with the NFC Ring Android app so I used the Android app NFC Tools Pro to verify the ring cannot be read. I have a few different NFC tags that do work and the included NFC sticker works fine. I tried on my Nexus 4, Nexus 5, & (2013) Nexus 7. None of them have cases or obstructions to interfere with reading NFC tags and they all behave the same. Everything but the Ring are detected.
How do I go about getting a replacement ring for this one? In an email John McLear said the process starts with creating a thread in the forum. Hopefully this is the correct place to start.
Thanks,

@Happy-Monkey
First off check out one of Lokki's many posts concerning 'dead' rings ... here's some examples:
https://forum.nfcring.com/topic/179/faq-or-the-ring-is-broken
https://forum.nfcring.com/topic/141/have-been-completely-unsuccessful-so-far
https://forum.nfcring.com/topic/174/nfc-ring-not-responding/8The fact you can't get a read on 3 different phones is probably indicative of a problem, although the Nexus' can be temperamental to orientation/speed so maybe worth checking out the posts concerning those handsets in particular:
https://forum.nfcring.com/category/2/which-ring-will-work-with-my-phone... and then finally here's a post from John with a link to the replacement policy process

I'm pretty sure mine is DOA. I've looked at those threads and the return policy and I seem to be stuck at step two of the replacement process.
The Replacement Process
- The ring bearer should contact support@nfcring.com in the first instance
- The ring bearer should be offered a choice of:
- Purchasing an additional second ring and being refunded when their original ring arrives with us.
- Purchasing an additional second ring at a heavily discounted rate.
- Sending their current ring back and receiving a replacement ring in due course.
I've contacted support@nfcring.com a few times and haven't heard back about the process or my options for getting a replacement.
Thanks,

Hi @Happy-Monkey, try to give them a little bit of time at support, they're still under the hammer trying to sort through questions and complaints from the last few backers to be delivered to.
Try not to email too often about the same thing, but if you haven't heard back in a few days then say something here and try once more. Just out of curiousity, which choice in part 2 is the one you're interested in? -
My preference would be option two, followed by one then three. I really like the project. I really want a working ring. I don't mind spending a little more to get one and shipping my ring back is a small inconvenience for me.

Ah cool, thanks for giving feedback on that. I'd go for option 2 myself, it just seems like a lot of hassle to me having to send things back.
With the devices you're using I'd like to point out that @shama's observation is correct, the Nexus series can be a pain especially with the 'classic' or smaller band. If you've got a classic you may want to discuss the possibility of an Alpha with support. As the Alpha has a larger antenna it can make matching and reading a little easier with some difficult devices. -

Just wanted to add that I've added my recent experience of using a ring on the Nexus 5 to the thread here
