Hi there. I received my ring at MLH Launch Hack. I tried building a hack for it, but it would simply not work on any of my phone or the phones of the people surrounding me. As this was gifted at a hackathon, am I ineligible for any replacements?

Hi @Kelvin-Z. - you've hit the nail on the head there, it's a free gift and therefore neither eligible for warranty or replacement.
Could you maybe share a few details about the type of ring (how wide is the band, colours of the inlays) and which phones you tried to use it with?
It's also possibly due to your expectations, they're quite different to use when compared to traditional tags and need to be close to the device and in very specific places before they'll trigger.

Hi Lokki, the one I have is the smallest which was given out. One side is Vintage and the other side is Classic. I can confirm that the dedicated NFC readers around my school (locking doors, food payment, etc.) don't detect the ring... It sucks since I wanted to clone my smart card onto it so I could fist bump the readers to unlock the doors. Aside from the obvious use, I also wanted to try it out for Android development... I can see multiple uses for it.

It's also possible that the school readers are either using 125kHz or 13.56MHz RFID which doesn't actually play nicely with NFC devices as NFC is a specific subset of RFID.
If you tell me your desired ring size and pitch me a project idea that you'll share here with us then I can probably help you out with a QA visual fail ring.

Hi @Lokki, I am unsure what my ring size is. I definitely know that the school readers read NFC, since they do react when I put NFC stickers and my Oyster Card against it.

The next hackathon I am going to will be OxHack < http://www.oxhack.co.uk/ >. Although NFCRing isn't sponsoring it, it would be nice to have a working one to integrate with whatever I make there. The guys I'm going with are just throwing around ideas at the moment, but I can definitely see a use for it in all of our ideas, from using it to make a phone call or for an in-app form of authentication.

Hi @Kelvin-Z. there are a couple of useful items in the first post in this thread. The finger sizers would be useful and they're pretty cheap too.
Shoot me a PM and I'll grab some details off you.
