Well, this is a lot tidier then my implementation, however I stopped using it as it was just too bulky as i never bothered to place it in a case, so wires everywhere! Kudos none the less!

e; maybe a bit more commenting in the code for people whom is newer on the coding side?
I always try to practice commenting every line if i release code.

the right locks should do the trick. they have a "normal" badge system but they should also able able to use their phone. But I don't work there so I don't exactly know the current state.

Maybe this is an issue with the ColorOS? I don't know how close the color os is to android. Anyone have more info about this?

AMS make some interesting stuff but they're most notable for their up to 1 watt NFC booster ICs with inbuilt antenna auto tuning.

What this effectively means is that you can make your coil pretty much however you want it and the AS3923 will compensate an insane amount for a poor antenna design/implementation.

Now I gather from your post that you got to the sub-heading. I'd like to point out that 'mobile payments' are a use of NFC technology, not a hardware type so much.

So really, bearing that in mind, the differences in NFC implementation between iphone 6 and lets say a GS4 are:

Antenna size Power output (Booster IC) User space access

AFAIK they will both do payments (anyone care to comment on that? I've never tried).
IF the Apple would let you touch it's precious NFC unit with a third party app then I really can't see any reason why it would not work with a passive device like the NFC Ring.
It's not a problem with the protocols because they're based on the NFC standard.
It shouldn't be a power issue because of that IC which should compensate for the antenna and bring the power output up to an appropriate level.
It shouldn't be a problem with the size of the NFC antenna because as long as it produces a strong enough RF field then there will be interaction with a passive device.

Pretty much the only thing I can see that is stopping use with passive tags is the lack of access to the hardware from user space.
That's not to say it's a definite, but I can't see why it should be impossible.

I don't see why the ring itself couldn't be tapped at checkout in the very same manner as a phone/tablet. Logistically, with the right internals this shouldn't be a problem, and would provide the ideal solution.

John has said that he would make the blog post once all orders were fulfilled and stock levels were back at a reasonable level again, for the inevitable decimation by voucher redemption. I'm hopeful for Christmas ish myself so I can take care of that - family gets rings this year from me.

@imscuba , sorry, I must have missed this post - thanks for reminding me, I had completely forgotten about this.
End results were all bad, with the removal of the comfort fit resulting in a much weaker ring and displacement of the inlay.
In order to fit the inlay in that portion of the ring is significantly thinner than a normal piece of jewellery would be.
So no, on both smaller and larger.

      Hi all,

I just wanted to follow up on John's previous message and specifically the performance with rings. I am convinced that it could be improved by refining the board's antenna's matching circuit. Before the boards get into production I will make sure I look into this closely!

      Cheers,

      Don
