My V1NTAGE NFC ring does not work with my phone (OnePlus 3) can you help?
-
My ring arrived yesterday and i have been unable to detect it using my phone. I have tried using the NFC control app in order to find the sweet spot, but i have had no luck with it.
Please can you advise?

Hi Meg
Please ensure that NFC is enabled on your phone and test it with any NFC chip.

The OnePlus 3(T) have a super strange position of the nfc chip: it's near/under the camera. I need to tap the ring against the lens to make it work (2016 ring here)

@Lafunamor my phone does have NFC, and it has been able to detect some cards of mine that i own, as well as a friend's NFC tag.
-
Did you try to read the ring with any other device?
-
@Scarabaea i've had a play and i can now get the phone to detect one of the sides of my ring. I programmed it using my friends phone to be set to two different websites, but touching on the spot opens one side very really but the other side does not work at all. Additionally when using the NFC control app, i cant re-program either side, the app refuses to detect it when using either the read or write functions.
Any ideas?

@Lafunamor I have originally programmed it using my friends phone, i have managed to get one side to be recognised by the phone now. But the other side of the ring still doesn't work.
Additionally the NFC control app in unable to detect either side and cannot write to either side.

What exact version of the NFC ring did you buy?
-
@Lafunamor The V1ntage ring size 8.5

Hmm... the titanium rings can be a bit trickier to read but it shouldn't be such a problem. Can you still remove the back of the opo3 or is it a metal unibody device?
-
@Lafunamor it's a metal body, i cant take it off :(
-
Will it register the ring if you hold it right on top of the camera lens?
-
@Lafunamor One side registers yes, touching just ontop of the lense, but the other side does not
-
have you tried rolling the ring over the spot where it registers? sometimes rolling the ring will help. Also try holding it ontop of the spot and turn it.
-
@Lafunamor Yeah i have been trying that

Weird... If both tags work fine on a different device, then it's the fault of the device. It's generally difficult to have good nfc in a full meal body device. Maybe post the question over at oneplus.net in the forums.

I can imagine that the old titanium rings are hard to read on the OP3. I have a ceramic ring and even these are really tricky to read on my OP3. The NFC is really weak, sadly :/

@Scarabaea ah fair enough
