Nexus 7 not recognizing ring
-
Device: Nexus 7 2013, Android 4.4.2
I fear this ring does not work. My Nexus 7 can read other NFC tags, like the ones included (btw what do I use those for?) but it will not recognize the NFC Ring.
I have tied everything I could find online before I resorted to emailing support.I have:
- slowly covered the whole surface with both sides of the ring. Multiple times and also at different angles.
- determined it is not my device because it works fine with other tags.
What is the next step?
Thanks,
Phillip C.

Hi @Flipper
first it would be useful if you try your ring with some other NFC device. The sweet spot of an Nexus 7 2013 Edition should be around the spot where my rings are on this picture: https://twitter.com/Lafunamor/status/463663805210562561/photo/1
usually the Nexus 7 is not picky, so if you don't get a read with your nexus it probably the tag. Before you contact support@nfcring.com for a replacement you should test your ring with a second device.
I recommend using at least one of the additional tag as a backup key to your device if your using the NFC ring unlock app. -
Update:
I tried the ring and tags with a Nexus 5 today. It recognizes the tags but not the ring. So I believe the ring shipped defective.
Also, when the app reads the additional tags is pops up:
"ALERT
Not NFC Ring"So how am I use them as backup keys?

use the smaller of both, that should work

There's a lot of misunderstanding on this, the NFC ring will not work the same as other tags. This is because of the metal construction of the ring and the size of the antenna in each inlay. I've covered this in a few posts already so I won't repeat too much of that, suffice to say the ring is most likely fully functional, but your phone is having trouble reading it.
Your best option if you've tried everything you can think of and it still isn't working is to contact support@nfcring.come and ask about a change to Alpha from Classic.
Meanwhile, keep trying your classic ring on other phones. Odds are good that it works fine, you've just had bad luck so far. -
@Lafunamor
Yes, but my question is how?
It is not recognized by the app as a ring so how do I do it? -
Ah I see, it sounds like you're trying to register them when you should be adding them as keys.
If you need to register the app then use your email code or the code reset link from John in I think the last update. -
@Lokki
My app is registered as far as I can tell. I received the email in January, clicked the link & installed the app.
I do not however have an option for adding keys.
Only:
Create Actions
Read
Settings
Register
Feedback (which does not work BTW) -
that's actually the NFC ring control app for the NFC ring unlock you'll need to download the NFC ring unlock app from the Google play store
