I'm getting this message if my ring comes within reading range after I unlock the screen. It is clearly reading the "private" NFC tag because it shows the contents of the private tag. This will be a problem given the new ring's extended range. Moto X running Marshmallow.

RE: Partial Passwords?
Okay, I've got my ring but it's clearly not a matter of just loading that text onto it. I'm guessing I'd have to write an app for this?

RE: New Ring Model
Part of the ring's security is that the outer/public NFC chip is more easily picked up by NFC readers, thus masking the inner/private NFC chip.

Partial Passwords?
Is it possible to configure an Android phone or the ring to supply just the first portion of a password?

TLDR; Yes, in the future but if you want to see it sooner then grab a ring with NTAG203 and that will help us raise the funds we need to produce an NTAG216 powered ring! [url:1ahfxsqa]http://nfcring.com[/url:1ahfxsqa][/quote:1ahfxsqa]
Excellent, thanks for the heads up. College student, so I can't afford to bankroll much of anything right now : )
Have you looked into the U2F standard closely? The old Yubikeys are not going to be backwards compatible, so it might not be a simple matter of having a single secure storage location. You wouldn't want to miss the boat on the next big standard!

RE: Thumbnail USB reader
Interesting, I will definitely take a look when I can switch over from Android.
Well, consider this project a worthy candidate for an accessory to your ring. It's significantly simpler to design and manufacture.

Encryption
After doing some reading about the NFC chip in the NFC ring, It's clear that the security required to use this ring to store private keys is just not there.
Could someone comment on future plans for the ring? The xNT is using the shiny new NTAG216, any idea on when the next hardware refresh will be and whether it will include a more advanced chip?
I'm particularly keen on future proofing for [url=https://fidoalliance.org/specifications:2e2oo14g]FIDO compatibility[/url:2e2oo14g], particularly the U2F standard.

Thumbnail USB reader
I really want to use an NFC ring to provide OTP for my laptop. I bought Yubico Nano, which fits into the USB slot of my laptop with only a tiny nub sticking out:
This only reduced my security, however, as it's easy to accidentally trigger it and it's very difficult to remove. However, the form factor is perfect. I've seen Bluetooth and Wifi adapters this small, but the smallest NFC readers I can find are the size of USB drive.
What gives? Can someone point me to one?
