I tried an alpha and a normal today on a Nexus 7 and the results were:
      The alpha did work
      The normal didn't.

I didn't try many prototypes though and they weren't production rings so this isn't concrete but it's worth recording.

Is the Nexus 7 you used the 2012 or the 2013 model?
As I have a Nexus 7 2013 (deb) and both Ring sizes works great with it. Have a look over at my Nexus 7 2013 (deb) thread in the "Where is my phones "Sweet Spot"?" section.

        :D

I got my nfc ring today (normal)..
unfortunately, Nexus 7 2012 is my only nfc-enabled Device at the moment and it's really a pain to use the nfc ring with =(

Feels like the "sweet spot" is about 1mm x 1mm big.. I always have to look on the back where I touch it with the ring, and even if I I'm absouletly on the right spot,
it only works 1 out of 10times =(

What's the problem there? Is the NFC Antenna of Nexus 7 2012 too small? too big? or just not suitable for small nfc tags as in the ring!?

Oh, I just found a new sweet spot!

In the beginning I used the spot just below the "x" of Nexus holding the ring horizontal, but I just found out that holding the ring vertically at the "s" or "n" of the word nexus is much more reliable =)

funny thing is, at the "x" it works really only holding the ring horizontally and at the "n" and "s" it only works vertically.. weird stuff.. :)

hmp, use the sweet spot sticker so you can "feel" where your sweet spot is :)

Also if you want you can always swap out for an alpha, no big deal :)

I tried, but it felt like the sticker made it even harder for my nexus to recognize the ring :(
But after all it's my first day with this New little Friend so i'll try for a couple more days and See how it goes :)

That's great to hear! Would a change to a normal with different inlay also be possible? Im only 1,67m tall so I guess my hands aren't so big either :)
I got black/black inlays so i figured it's quite hard to know which side is private and which is public.. (Made a thread in General for that)

Also I'll get a New phone soon so hopefully ring recognition won't be a Problem anymore with a New phone.. :)
(Still using a Galaxy S for now..)

Thanks a lot for your fast reply!

You might happen to have a recommendation for a New phone wich recognizes the ring well? Would make choosing a phone much easier! ;)
