GS3 w/ case
-
Ah, that's a pain. I did wonder how it would go - thanks for letting us know.
Apart from the ring issues, how do you find it with charging?
-
I always figured they were a cool idea but I've never been able to play with one.
Where's the location of the additional antenna for the charging? If it wasn't right over the top of the GS3 battery it wouldn't interfere so much. I don't s'pose there's any way to shift it? -

the little sticker receiver thing they have actually adheres to the battery, i think i would likely need to take it apart and modify it to get it to not surround the battery. im hopeful that there might be something out there that is basically this same adapter but handles nfc instead of wireless charging. its a shame that the nfc band aid is so expensive
-
The only way we'd be able to use the NFC band aid to do this would be to put it on top of the battery, then the power adapter and have a hole in the case for the extension antenna from the NFC band aid - it's basically a passive repeater, so there's still the chance that there'd be interference because of stacking so many antenna elements.
I suspect it would do some very strange things.
I wonder if it's possible to get a GS3 type antenna (for the connector) that is not an integral part of the battery, that way you'd possibly be able to shift it away from there.

oh, thats more or less what i thought the NFC band aid was. i see no reason why something like this cant exist, though i obviously do lack some knowledge on the topic
-
Ah, right - yeah the Band aid is a passive repeater. There'd be absolutely nothing stopping someone from using a battery that didn't have the NFC antenna though, and just connecting another antenna to the same points that a standard one does.
It wouldn't be perfect, but it'd work as long as everything matched up properly. -
hey lokki, i figured since you are a forum admin you might be involved with the whole project and might be able to answer my question rather than email the support email. i just saw the update that mentions faulty rings. how are we supposed to know if our ring is faulty? when i get my ring to work it seems like the read area is less than the size of the sweet spot sticker, so im not sure if thats as intended and the gs3 just doesnt like it or if it might be the ring. if you aren't involved in the whole project and just simply manage the forums i can send an email in or create a thread in the appropriate place.

Scuba,
If it's faulty the ring won't read at all. It just seems that the GS3s Sweet spot is small i'm afraid.
-
It's gonna be interesting to see how an alpha performs too :)

Hi mate, I'm just a fan and persisted my way into a moderator position. Tom, John and Chris are the droids you're looking for if you need to throw praise, money or lukewarm custard. Tom's answer is the one to pay heed to though, the GS3 and GS4 seem to have rather small sweet spots that are really picky at times (and mileage between phones really varies a lot) but if they work at all then the ring is fine. :-)
