It's not just my phone with the tags & rings. Tried on a Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Moto X, & a friend's Nexus 5. Occasionally we can get one of the tags to work, but it's not consistent. If there's any additional information that I can provide, let me know. Just not sure what else there is left to try.
