I've never worn a ring before, but I'm having a hard time keeping my finger clean where the ring sits. After just a few hours I develop a kind of iffy sort of cheesy smell and I'm having to frequently wash under where the ring is. Anyone have any advice as to a solution to this or is that just the way it's going to be?

It might go that way for you for a little while, as your finger gets used to wearing a ring.
It helps a lot to keep the area under the ring dry, especially if you wash your hands a lot.

Sorry for the short reply, I was using my phone.
The long reply is that I had that happen with one of my old steel rings that was actually a little too tight. Every time I'd wash my hands or otherwise get wet I'd have to shift the ring and make sure the area it sat was dry, otherwise the skin would go nasty.
So keep an eye on it, make sure it's always dry and possibly consider moving the ring to another finger, perhaps from your dominant hand to the same finger on your off hand.

What sort of ring is it? If it's the silver titanium one then irritation would be rare as titanium is supposed to by hypoallergenic. Or is it the stealth bomber with the coating that may be causing irritation?

I suspect it's more that the skin underneath is damp for too long, for whatever reason. So less a reaction to the ring and more a reaction to skin being covered by the ring in a way different than paulguy is used to not having worn one before.
